Belgaum sits on the border where Kannada and Marathi share one dinner table, and its cool, rainy climate gives the city kunda, its own caramelised milk sweet. What Belgaum orders
Kunda, karadantu and the faral tray
Kunda is Belgaum’s own sweet, milk reduced with sugar until it browns and turns grainy, and it rarely needs nuts. Gokak, an hour away, is famous for karadantu, a dense bar of dry fruits, edible gum, jaggery and ghee. Home cooks who make their own version need Goond Whole, Jumbo Anjeer and Chuara / Kharak (Dry Dates), all chopped small. At Diwali the faral plate fills with chivda, karanji and besan laddu, and karanji stuffing tastes better with a spoon of poppy seed and chopped godambi.
Ganeshotsav in a Marathi-Kannada city
Belgaum celebrates Ganesh Chaturthi on a scale close to Pune, with public pandals across the old town and Shahapur. Ukadiche modak, steamed rice dumplings with coconut and jaggery, are the offering of the day, and a few Super Cashew pieces pressed into the filling make them feel festive.
Cool air, long monsoon
At roughly 750 metres, Belgaum is cooler than most of North Karnataka, and the monsoon arrives heavy from the Western Ghats. Walnuts go limp quickly in that damp, so keep Walnut Kernels Two Pieces in a sealed glass jar and buy smaller packs between June and September. In the cool months from November to January the same jars stay crisp for much longer, which is when families make methi and dink laddus for winter.
Belgaum winters invite another tradition shared with Kolhapur and Pune: dink laddu, made from fried edible gum, dry coconut, dates and nuts, eaten one a day through the cold weeks. Families also make it for a new mother in the house. A batch for a household of four needs only a few hundred grams of gum, so order the smaller pack and keep it dry.
Gifts, garrison and delivery
Belgaum has a large army presence, and regimental functions, retirements and Diwali visits all call for a neat box; see the corporate gifting page for office and unit orders of any size. For everyday cooking, the almonds collection lists every grade we stock. Orders start at ₹1,000 and every order ships free. Payment is online only. A Belgaum order usually reaches you in 4–6 days by courier, weighed out and heat-sealed. We also courier to Gokak, Khanapur, Chikodi and Nipani.
