Sweets from rice country

Nellore grows some of the most prized rice in the state, and rice turns up in its sweets as often as in its meals. Paramannam, rice slow-cooked in milk with jaggery, is offered at almost every home puja and finished with cashew and raisins fried in ghee. Sankranti brings ariselu and kajjikayalu, crescent pastries filled with dry coconut, sugar and chopped nuts.
