Quick answer
A karwa chauth gift hamper is usually bought by a husband in the last week, and it shows. This year the fast falls on Thursday 29 October, which leaves just enough time to do it properly: a box she will keep afterwards, filled with what she will actually want once the moon is sighted and the day is over.
What is a Karwa Chauth hamper actually for?
It is not the sargi. The sargi is the plate the mother-in-law prepares before dawn, and we have written about what goes on it separately in our sargi guide. The hamper is the other end of the day: a gift from the husband, given in the evening or the night before, that says thank you for the fast and is still there on the shelf in a month.
That changes what goes in. After a full day without food or water, most women break the fast gently, with water and something small and sweet, before the proper dinner. Soft dried fruit and a few nuts suit that moment far better than chocolates, and they last through the following week when the household has moved on to Diwali preparations.
What should go in for after the fast?
- Medjool dates or soft khajur: the usual first bite in many homes once the fast is opened.
- Anjeer: soft and sweet, easy to eat a piece or two before dinner.
- Mamra badam: for soaking that night and eating the next morning.
- Kaju: everyone’s favourite, and the one that empties first.
- Pista or kali dakh: if there is room for a fifth kind.
We are not suggesting any of this as a remedy for a long fast; it is simply what tastes good after one. If your wife has her own way of opening the fast, follow it and build the hamper around her favourites.
Peacock Mahal is a two-jar keepsake box in a pink mahal print, with a peacock inside the lid. It is the box we suggest most for Karwa Chauth, because it is made to be kept: once the dates and badam are finished, it becomes a jewellery or bangle box on the dressing table. Two jars is the right size for a personal gift, not a family one.
Which box suits which kind of gift?
| Who is giving | The idea behind it | Box | Fill |
|---|---|---|---|
| Husband, first Karwa Chauth | Something she keeps as a memory of the year | Peacock Mahal | Medjool dates and Mamra badam |
| Husband, a few years married | Useful in the kitchen long after | Rustic Crate | Kaju and anjeer in two tins |
| Mother-in-law, alongside the sargi | A gift for the bahu to open later | Peacock Mahal | Kaju and pista |
| Husband living in another city | Sent ahead, with a card in his words | Rustic Crate | Khajur and badam |
The mother-in-law’s box is worth a word. In many families she gives the sargi at dawn and a small gift as well. A keepsake box with kaju and pista, separate from the sargi plate, lets her give something that lasts beyond the morning.
Rustic Crate is a pinewood carrier with a handle, holding two printed ceramic tins. The tins stay in the kitchen for years, which makes it a good choice for a wife who would rather have something useful than something decorative. It also travels well if you are sending it to her from another city.
When do you need to order for 29 October?
We dispatch within three working days of the order being settled, and most cities receive it two to six days after that. Working back from Thursday 29 October, an order settled by about Saturday 17 October is comfortable. The week before Karwa Chauth runs straight into Diwali dispatches, so earlier is kinder to everyone.
How do you order?
Choose the dry fruits and pack sizes on the website, order them there, and put the gift together at home. Ready-made gift boxes and hampers are not available at the moment. Orders start at ₹1,000, every order ships free across India, and payment is online through Razorpay. Delivery takes a few days depending on the city, so order well ahead of the day.
Questions people ask
Can I send a Karwa Chauth hamper to my wife in another city?
Yes. Give us her address and the date, and order by about 17 October so the courier has time to reach her before the fast.
Is a two-jar box enough for a Karwa Chauth gift?
For a personal gift from husband to wife, yes. It is meant for her, not the whole family, and a smaller keepsake feels more personal.
Can the mother-in-law order the sargi dry fruits and a gift box together?
Yes. Loose dry fruit for the plate and a gift box can go in one order, delivered together.
