Quick answer

The question that holds up most gift orders is not what to put in the box. It is how much. Put in too little and the box feels thin when the lid comes off, too much and the money went into weight that nobody noticed. There is a range that works, and it is narrower than most people expect.

What weight actually looks right in a gift box?

Between 100 and 150 grams per compartment, and four compartments to a box. That is the range that fills a section properly, sits level with the divider and still lets the kernels be seen as individual pieces rather than a heap. Below about 80 grams a compartment reads as empty however good the contents are. Above about 200 it stops looking arranged.

So a standard four-item box holds somewhere between 400 and 600 grams of dry fruit, and a kilo of any one item fills seven to ten compartments. That is the number to plan an order around, not the box count.

Box Compartments Dry fruit in it
Small Two Around a quarter kilo
Standard Four Between 400 and 600 grams
Large Six Close to a kilo

How do you work out an order for fifty boxes?

Backwards from the compartments. Fifty standard boxes with four compartments is two hundred compartments. Divide those between the items you have chosen, multiply each item’s share by 125 grams, and round up to the nearest pack. Fifty boxes holding kaju, badam, anjeer and khajur comes out at roughly six kilos of each.

Round up rather than down. A few hundred grams spare across an order that size costs very little and saves the evening where one box has to go out light. Khajur is the easiest item to be generous with, running at today's shop rate today across what we keep, set out variety by variety on the khajur price page.

Which items fill a compartment well, and which do not?

  • Large whole kaju and whole almonds sit evenly and read as generous at a glance.
  • Whole anjeer fills depth better than anything else and needs the least of it.
  • Medjool khajur looks substantial at low weight, which makes it efficient as well as good.
  • Pista kernels give the box its green, and a little goes a long way.
  • Kishmish, makhana and anything chopped settle and sink, and a compartment of them looks half empty by the time the box is opened.

That last point is the one that catches people. An item that settles needs more weight to look the same, so the cheap filler is not as cheap as it looked once the box has travelled. Kaju runs at today's shop rate at our counter today, and which count holds its shape in a compartment is worth checking on the kaju price page before the quantities are fixed.

Depth is the other half of it. A shallow box needs an item that sits flat and even, and a deep one wants something with body in it or the compartment looks scooped out from above. Anjeer and medjool khajur carry a deep box on their own, where a flat one is better served by kernels of a single count.

Should every box on the list be the same size?

No, and trying to make them the same is what pushes most gift budgets over. A list has tiers in it whether or not anybody says so: close family and senior clients, then colleagues and neighbours, then the wider list. Three sizes against those three tiers costs less than one middling size for everybody and lands better at both ends.

Anjeer is a useful marker between tiers, as a whole one is unmistakably a better box than a smaller one and today it runs at today's shop rate across our grades. Our orders start at ₹1,000 and every order ships free, so even the smallest tier of boxes clears the minimum on its own.

The gift boxes show what each design holds before you commit to weights. For a company list where the same box goes to a hundred people, the corporate gifting page covers the printing and the delivery side of it.

Questions people ask

How many gift boxes does one kilo fill?

Seven to ten compartments, so two to three standard four-item boxes if that kilo is one of the four items. Plan by compartments and the arithmetic stays simple.

Is it cheaper to give one large box or two small ones?

One large box, usually, because the packaging is the fixed cost and two boxes pay it twice. Two smaller boxes only make sense when they go to two different people.

Can different boxes on one order hold different items?

Yes. Tell us the tiers and how many of each, and the order goes out as separate sets rather than one repeated box.

How far ahead do gift quantities need to be confirmed?

Six weeks before a festival, four at a push. The weights can move later than that, but the grades cannot, because the large whole counts go first.
